Explorers and huskies tool around in the vast wilderness of Greenland, and their progress is tracked by a GPS. Coolest thing ever.
Over spring break I started to think about how cool it would be to hike the Appalachian Trial with a hacked up backpack that kept GPS coordinates as you walked, every five or so minutes, and also periodically took a picture off the front strap of your pack (of course also strapped the GPS data into the photo) and eventually compile the millions of pieces of data into one hell of a trip memoir.
This kind of thing is the coolest, I’ve been thinking about it almost nonstop for a week now. WHy not just build this kind of application into your e-911 cellphone, and have a record of where you have been, complete with photos of interesting points in your days journey, and best of all, all those pieces of metadata, and context? Why throw away so many facets of your life – to just forget about them?
