Quick and charmingly illustrated primer on hiking. Same series: backpacking and skiing.
I’m out the door to take on a few miles of the Superior Hiking Trail. My pack weights in at about 30lbs, so it’s not exactly lightweight, but not bad either. Me and my mom will be out for three or four days. Hope the weather holds.

I’ve been bent for awhile now with the idea of taking off for the summer and hiking some stretch of trail off in the woods somewhere. So what do I do? Read books about it.
Ultralight bakpacking stove, DIY.

A delightful and quick primer on backpacking. Easy to read with lots of drawings and good advice. I’ve always wanted to take a backpacking trip, and now I might just know how to go about it.
All kinds of patterns and guides to creating your own backpacking gear – looks nice. I’ve also wanted to make this aluminum can stove for about a year now, but who the hell drinks beer out of 14-ounce cans? So here’s a tuna can stove.
