I read this book back at Barton, But I don’t remember too much of it so I probably just flipped the pages and got the general idea of the book. It’s the story of a family around the time of the civil war, and looks like it was a decent read.
The book follows Jethro, nine years at the beginning of the civil war, and his family through the five aprils of the war. Great book, I don’t remember any of it from the last time I read it. But that just makes me suspicious that I never actually read the thing.
I just finished it, and I couldn’t put it down today. I really liked it, but then I like most of the books I read.
I really enjoyed the story of Jethro growing up – in his tenth year he is the only kid left on his farm in southern Illinois, and when his father has a heart attack Jethro and his older sister become the sole providers for their parents.
