Being on vacation, I haven’t done much the past few weeks but eat, sleep, ski, and visit with relatives. Oh, and read. I got this Grisham novel for christmas, only read it a few times but finished it marvellously quick. In the car back from my Uncles, up and back from the ski mountain, and a little during Monday Night Football and I finished it off.
It wasn’t my favorite – I never would have picked it myself, but nonetheless it was a thriller most of the duration. The end was flat, I held the dwindling page count as I was reading late in the novel and wondered how the story could possibly be eloquently wrapped in the few pages left. But in all the Grisham novels I’ve ever read (notably all recieved as christmas gifts, starting with a bunch from a cousin a few years back) none has ever been quite eloquent.
So The ending didn’t measure up with the other Grisham’s I’ve read, but the body of the novel was interesting and fast paced, blatantly thrilling. For the effort it takes to read a novel like this, the enjoyment is about worth it. Don’t put much in, and get a little out – even if you read into the plot lines 250 pages in.
