    Powerbook Neverball

I almost figured it was common knowledge, but it’s sinfully easy to set up Neverball on your Powerbook. And especially rewarding if you own a new model – one with Apples Sudden Motion Sensor built in to prevent hard disk damage from falls and the like.

An article published in Make vol. 3 prompted me to write this, he wanted an adaptation to be in the works (155, Tilt Interface). It’s there my friend, you just need to make it.

    1. Download and install the opensource Neverball game, there’s a mac binary.
    2. Download Amit Singh’s AMS2H controller, which turns the sensor from your powerbook into an active input for software.
    3. Launch Neverball: Open the .app if you took the mac binary, or if you somehow overlooked that it existed and built neverball from source, just type neverball and hit enter from Terminal.app.
    4. Open AMS2HID.app, select the application neverball from the dropdown on the right, and HID “mouse” on the left (which tricks the application into thinking input from the motion sensor is actually that of the mouse), click play select your level and click the mouse once to go.

Now I admit its harder then sin to figure out – I find it helps if you change the sampling mode to something like 360 times/s – but its still fun and interesting.
