    It's Here!

The last six days have been easily the most agonizing of my life – I’ve been compulsively checking the shipping info on my powerbook, jumping up and running to the window whenever I hear a truck rumbling nearby, and anticipating the arrival of this guy like nothing else. But it came!

I haven’t had it open for more then ten minutes, and I already love it. Updates to come.

For my first reaction: wow! The thing is just fit and finish, it’s beautiful. I love the texture of the aluminum. After using it for awhile you feel that its a little granier then the ibook’s plastic. It really bothered me to have long fingernails while typing on the keyboard, I had to clip mine.

For the first hour or two the fan was just screaming, even after spotlight got done indexing my drive. It seems to have quieted down now, but that might just be because I turned on the radio. I might just be noise sensitive, I can hear our fat tube t.v. buzzing from the other side of the house when the door to the den is shut.

I’ve been waiting for such a long time to get this computer, now that it’s come I’m a little bit overwhelmed. But I have plenty of configuration to do, I’ll be busy for a few hours still before it really settles in that this is my computer, and I really start kickin’ with it.

Just a few more updates: the computer shipped with 768MB RAM, not the 512 that I ordered, which was a nice surprise. And unfortunately the left shift key managed to wiggle its way off just a day after it came, and its a bitch to get back on. I might have to take it into the apple store tuesday if I can’t get it by then.

I can’t get over how nice the computer is just to have. It runs OS X like any other mac, which is a great system, and the powerbook is just beyond all my expectations. It feels great in my hands, looks great from all angles, it surprises me how neat a computer this is every day.
