   Uh Oh

   I just got back from a five day vacation, and the hard disk on my computer is gone. It looks like the power went out at some point, but the computer was both turned off and behind a surge protector. I can’t get anything to even see the drive, which has me worried, especially because I don’t have the slightest backup. What really kills is that I have a 120gb drive upstairs I was just ready to start using to back up the machine. Hopefully I can get it back!

   • This looks mighty helpful: Recover a dead harddrive using dd.
   • I might need to give Disk Warrior a try.
   • fsck is worth a look too, but I’d need to borrow someone’s firewire cable.
