I grew up spoiled, playing in my backyard with puppies, ponies, and a decent man acting president of the United States. What happened?
Now I just don’t quite know how to handle the situation, being that I’m incensed over the dubious four, soon to be eight years of a much less competent, and furthermore asshat of a prez.
I don’t think I’m acting anti-patriotic here, I know my fair share of half-decent republican citizens. But I just can’t quite manage to understand how the man who has lied, and lied, and barred people from the truth, and blatantly misled the people who elected him to serve, could be elected in the first place (however disputed the results) and furthermore how we elected him to a second term. Really, why?
I live in a terrific city, and Bush has few handholds here in Minneapolis. As far as I know, my public high school consists of 1795 liberal, and maybe 5 more conservative students and faculty members. My two neighbors staked out Bush signs this november, but Kerry signs nearby outnumbered them 20:1.
I just can’t come to grips myself with how this man became our leader, and is still today, despite all that he has done. For gods fucking sake (and excuse the language, ubt politics these days very much are rotten), Mr. Clinton had an affair, lied once or twice about it, and was impeached by a democratic congress! Now Bush goes and manages to have his brother fudge an election in his favor, lies vehemently about the fact that weapons of mass destruction exist in Iraq, Rallies support on his falsified premise, and says pompous and atrocious things like “bring ‘em on,” having now caused the death of 1369 American Soldiers and almost 20000 Iraqi civillians.
And for all his doings, not only does Bush not get punished, he hardly takes any criticism at all from those surrounding him in Washington. He gets elected to another term. Four more years! How? Why? What Happened?
I can’t believe how it’s happened. For all the investigation and scrutiny Clinton underwent during his impeachment, Clinton ‘fessed up to what happened, Congress and the people realized that it wasn’t a matter that affected his standing as president, and all was well again. But so far Bush hasn’t even had to dream of being held accountable. His cabinet members haven’t either. Lie and cheat on your wife before 9/11, and you get impeached – but I guess Bush you can lie and cheat thousands of people of their lives, sans consequence, peddling a pre-established1 invasionist foreign policy justified to the american people (falsely) by a national tragedy.

1 The Project for a New American Century, a “non-profit, educational organization whose goal is to promote American global leadership” (About Us), founded in 1997 and supported by conservative wacko’s Donald Rumsfield, Paul Wolfowotz, Dick Cheney, and Jeb Bush et al. They reap their foreign policy from the Reagan Era, striving to establish:
..a military that is strong and ready to meet both present and future challenges; a foreign policy that boldly and purposefully promotes American principles abroad; and national leadership that accepts the United States’ global responsibilities. Statement of Principles
They feel america needs to duke it out more overseas, to be stronger fisted with other nations, promote our values to others not quite as virtuous, and remain the global superpower.
Well, that sounds familiar.
