I’ve had a few ideas lately about how to get myself a real nice computer (and of course none of them involve me doing any sort or work), but my plans could be on their way to being ruined.
Tonight my Mom was taking Maia and Joachim shopping for school supplies, and startled me when she flat out said she was going to look at ‘notebooks.’ She’s been thinking about getting herself a laptop for work for a long time now, but never seriously – and the night she decides to take a look just happens to be the night that I’m not going with.
I’ve been hatching plans to get a laptop for a bit now, but they all depend on me being able to parlay the fact that my sister’s $3400 Oboe was funded in principal by my parents and the presents she was due for various holidays last year. I think she contributed about 20%, which, when applied toward the purchase of a Powerbook falls within a very reasonable range.
Yes, even for a stingy high school student.
But, like most people in the world, I couldn’t ever just go out and buy a new powerbook – I wouldn’t want to get burned by the market and end up with an outdated model the month after I throw all my money in the hat.
So my goal up to now was to work my parents up slowly in the funding department, and then hit ‘em with the news sometime late this fall that the new computer I wanted just came out and it absolutely rocks.
But my Mom threatening the purchase of her own beautiful book puts us into dire circumstances financially and possibly slashes my chances at finding the opportune moment.
But on the plus side, my classes are working out fairly well.
