This entry is a bit of a ramble, as I haven’t put anything for so long. Back from vacation, live a little, and here comes soccer season.
I got back last night from Montana. We were in the car all day. we woke up at 6 in the morning, and got back to Minnesota at 2:30. Yes, two frickin’ thirty the next morning.
The time spent in Montana was great, we hiked around a little, did some swimming, and side tripped to visit some uncles and aunts a half-days drive from the lake.
It’s sad to meter your vacation by time spent driving in the car, but thats what I have been doing for a bit. It’s about 22 hours there and back, and the trip to Oregon we took was 12 hours one way and a little more the way back, although we broke the time up spending some time in Sandpoint, Idaho, with some other family.
Although taking a vacation seems kind of odd when you just come home to catch up to hours and hours of Tivo’d programs, It felt good. I won’t ever excuse myself for sitting on my ass for two weeks straight though – here comes soccer season. So far I’ve watched the backlog of Arrested Development (easy, just two episodes) and The Daily Show, but I still have about 7 soccer matches to watch.
And captains practice started today, and on account of my terrible shape I lugged myself around the lake. I didn’t go quick as I would have a few months ago, but I got through. I jogged around the lake, stopped at the bandshell to stretch and have a drink, then ran the rest. On the way home I sprinted a half-block and walked a half-block, for about three blocks (those are long damn blocks) before finishing off with 100 lunges and a cool down run turning to walk.
I hope to do at least as much tomorrow, but it’s said were going to run a lot more at practice, so we’ll see. I want to be in top shape for the season, our new coach seems motivated and expects lots from us and has no little goal then the state cup. Maybe he can whip the team up into good enough fitness that we can really rock it this fall.
