We see off the exchange student, wake up nice and early, and then we drive, drive, drive…
We sent Hugues off to a second home last night because we had to leave. Sent him off with fixings for S’mores and pancakes (with maple syrup, which had become his favorite), gave him a few pieces of pie, and hopefully he is sleeping quietly at the moment.
Hosting an exchange student was really fun, although it got to be tough after the first week, because I just got tired of not doing anything for myself. I haven’t even seen any of my friends because I’ve either been really busy or burned out since he got here.
I look forward to doing it again this fall though, and I hope that with a one year exchange student the frenzy to show him all of Minnesota will manifest itself slowly and more controllably, not driving from southwest of the state to the northeast with trips all over the metro area in just under two weeks.
And now, with my brother sitting in our van and the rest of my family chiding each other deliriously, we stuff everything we can in the car and get ready to roll. See you from Montana for two weeks.
